Why off-server
A backup on the same server is not a backup.

Off the machine
Copies are kept on the backup platform, not on your hosting account. A server you cannot reach is not a server you can restore from.
Files and database together
A site is both. Restoring one without the other gives you a version of your site that has never existed.

Backups are incremental on every plan, so a large site does not take a full copy every day to stay current.

Backup accounts are created by a person here rather than the moment your payment clears. It is not instant, and saying so before you pay is the point of this section.

The platform connects to your site to read it. Have the host, the user and the database name to hand — on our own hosting we can find them for you.

No. The platform connects over SFTP and to your database, so it backs up a site anywhere you can give it those two things.
Not instantly. A person here opens the backup account and sends you the connection step, usually the same working day. The first backup runs as soon as the site is connected.
One connection — one set of files and one database. Each plan states how many it covers, and the number is on the card above rather than in the small print.
Backups stop being added until there is room, so the right moment to move up a plan is before that rather than after. Move up whenever you like — write to us and we will change it.
Every plan on this page carries unlimited retention, which is the provider's own word for it: versions are kept rather than expiring after a set number of days.
Yes, on every plan. You can also roll the whole site back in one action, or download a backup as a zip and do it yourself.
No, and the difference is where they live. A host's backup usually sits on or beside the same machine. This one does not, which is the case it exists for.
