Servers

Virtual and dedicated machines, and what root access actually means.

One physical machine divided into several virtual ones, each with its own share of processor, memory and storage set aside for it. KVM gives each of them its own kernel, so a neighbour's load — or a neighbour's mistake — stays on the neighbour's side of the wall. It is the isolation of a dedicated machine without the price of one.

Root access, and what it lets you do: install what you like, configure it the way your application needs, run something the shared platform does not offer. The trade is that the machine becomes yours to look after — which is the right trade when you have outgrown a panel, and the wrong one when you have not.

cPanel and Plesk licences can be added to the server when you configure it, billed monthly alongside it. Which ones appear depends on the plan meeting that panel's requirements and on the provider quoting the licence — so the configurator shows the ones your chosen plan can actually have, rather than a list you have to check yourself. Choose none if you administer the machine yourself.

Yes, as a paid add-on at the same step. Useful for some TLS setups, and for sending mail from an address whose reputation is yours alone.

On a server with root access, the backups are yours. Nothing on the machine is kept for you unless you arrange it, and we would rather write that here than let you find out after an incident. Send copies off the server, schedule them, and restore one occasionally to prove it works — the support section has a guide that walks through it.

Up, within the same family of plans — and it is not something you can do yourself from your account yet, so get in touch and we will size it with you. Downgrading is not offered: an allocation that can shrink under a running application is not the stability a server is bought for.

Current long-term-support Linux distributions are offered at creation, and because you have root you can replace or rebuild the system afterwards.

Managed services is an add-on: the provider administers the server for you — patching, monitoring and support — instead of you doing it yourself. Without it the machine is yours to operate, which is the right choice if you already have that discipline.

The allocation is set aside for your instance rather than borrowed from neighbours as burst credit, which is what keeps performance flat rather than spiky.

Dedicated Servers

Intel Xeon D-2141 I, eight cores at 2.20 GHz with hyper-threading enabled, on every configuration. What changes between the plans is memory, SSD capacity and the monthly transfer allowance — each plan card carries its own figures.

Alma Linux 9, Alma Linux 8 or Ubuntu 22.04. You choose when you order, and the machine is built with it rather than reimaged afterwards.

Every plan ships its SSDs mirrored in RAID 1, so the server keeps running on the surviving drive rather than going down with the failed one. Tell us and we will get the replacement moving.

More on Dedicated Servers

No. Unmanaged is the default and the machine is entirely yours. Managed operation is a priced add-on for teams who would rather not carry patching and monitoring themselves.

More on Dedicated Servers

Yes. Extra storage comes in several sizes and additional IP addresses are available, both priced as add-ons rather than folded into the plan.

About thirty minutes after the payment clears, at which point you can reach it over SSH. One caveat worth knowing rather than discovering: if the plan resizes the disk, that keeps running in the background for a while after the server is already usable. The service page shows the state, and we email you when it turns active.

It is how you administer the machine without a ticket: CPU, memory, storage and inode usage on graphs, the IP and storage details, and the operations — restart, rebuild onto a fresh operating system, reset the access credentials, and web-based VNC for the day the machine boots but will not let you in over SSH.

A cPanel licence, bought with the server or added later when the need turns up. It is a separate licence rather than part of the machine, so you are not paying for it until you want it.

WHMCS — client management, support and billing in one. The licence is bought from us and the application is installed on your own server, which is what makes it yours to configure.

The machine and everything under it, around the clock: hardware, network, booting, the operating system as delivered, and being locked out. Basic cPanel and firewall setup is covered too. What you install on top — your applications and their configuration — is yours, and we will still look and tell you what we can see.

More on Dedicated Servers

No. A dedicated server runs websites, databases, applications, shops, DNS, file storage and ordinary mail — personal, organisational or professional. Bulk or marketing mail is not allowed and carries penalties, which is worth knowing before you plan a campaign around it rather than after the machine is blocked.

More on Dedicated Servers

Yes. Volumetric attacks are filtered upstream of the machine, on the network in front of it, rather than being left to arrive at your interface and become your problem to absorb.

Windows Server 2019 Standard, and Windows Server 2012 and 2008 Standard for an application that will not move off them. Pick 2019 unless something forces the older ones: Microsoft's support for 2008 ended in 2020 and for 2012 in 2023, so anything exposed to the internet on those needs a plan for that. 2019 is supported by Microsoft until January 2029.

Acronis Cyber Backup, as a paid add-on bought alongside the server or later from the control panel. It takes full or incremental backups of databases, files, mailboxes and disks on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule, encrypted against ransomware, and restores quickly. Three things to know: it is sold for the USA and Asia locations, its term and renewal run independently of the server's, and it is not covered by the money-back period.

Thirty days on the server itself. The Acronis backup add-on is excluded from it, which is the vendor's rule and not ours to waive.
